FAQ

Questions, answered.

Everything you might wonder about Summon — BYOK, the trial, devices, refunds and privacy.

What is BYOK and why does Summon use it?

BYOK stands for Bring Your Own Key. When you run a command, Summon sends inputs from your Mac to OpenAI using your own API key — no middleman, no hidden markup. Your Summon subscription covers app access and features only. OpenAI usage is billed separately to your OpenAI account at their standard rates.

How does the 72-hour trial work?

Subscribe to start the trial. You get full Pro access for 72 hours and are not charged until the trial ends. You may cancel before billing starts or request a trial reset via our support email.

What is the 14-day refund policy?

You may request a full refund within 14 days of your original purchase, no questions asked. Contact us at hello@summon.app with your order reference and we will process the refund promptly.

How many devices can I use Summon on?

Weekly subscriptions include 1 Mac. Yearly subscriptions include up to 3 personal Macs, such as your laptop, desktop, and a second work setup. You can deactivate any device at any time directly from Summon's Settings.

What happens if I hit my device limit?

You will see a clear message in the app. Open Settings on one of your existing devices and click 'Deactivate this device' to free up a slot. You can then activate Summon on your new Mac.

Does Summon store or log my content or inputs?

No. Inputs are sent to OpenAI only when you explicitly run a command. Nothing is stored or logged by Summon for that flow. Secure fields (like password inputs) are always ignored automatically.

What macOS version is required?

Summon requires macOS 15 Sequoia or later.

How do I get my OpenAI API key?

Visit platform.openai.com, create an account, and generate an API key under API Keys. Paste it into Summon's Settings → API tab and click Validate.

Can I use any OpenAI model?

Yes. You can select from available models in Summon's API settings. GPT-4o Mini is recommended for the best balance of speed and cost.

Will Summon come to the Mac App Store?

Mac App Store distribution is planned for a future release. Direct purchase is the best way to get Summon now.
