What is BYOK and why does Summon use it?
BYOK stands for Bring Your Own Key. When you run a command, Summon sends inputs from your Mac to the provider you chose — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, or xAI — using your own API key. There is no middleman and no hidden markup. Your Summon subscription covers app access and features only. Model usage is billed by that provider, on your account, at their standard rates.
How does the 72-hour trial work?
Subscribe to start the trial. You get full access for 72 hours and are not charged until the trial ends. You may cancel before billing starts or request a trial reset via our support email.
Is there a lifetime option?
Yes. A lifetime license is a single $79.99 payment with every future update included and up to 3 personal Macs. Nothing renews. Lifetime has no trial, but the 14-day refund applies.
What is the 14-day refund policy?
You may request a full refund within 14 days of your original purchase, no questions asked. Contact us at hello@usesummon.com with your order reference and we will process the refund promptly.
How many devices can I use Summon on?
Weekly subscriptions include 1 Mac. Yearly subscriptions and lifetime licenses include up to 3 personal Macs, such as your laptop, desktop, and a second work setup. On any of those Macs, open Settings → Subscription and click “Remove License From This Mac” to free a slot.
What happens if I hit my device limit?
You will see a clear message in the app. Open Settings on one of your existing Macs, go to Subscription, and click “Remove License From This Mac” to free up a slot. You can then activate Summon on your new Mac.
Does Summon store or log my content or inputs?
No. Inputs are sent to your chosen provider only when you explicitly run a command. Nothing is stored or logged by Summon for that flow. Secure fields (like password inputs) are always ignored automatically.
What Mac do I need?
Summon needs a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) running macOS 15 Sequoia or later.
How do I add an API key?
Create a key with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, or xAI, then paste it into Summon's Settings → AI Models and click Validate. OpenAI keys are created at platform.openai.com/api-keys.
Which models can I use?
After a key is validated, Summon lists the models that provider offers. Pick the one you want in Settings → AI Models. A smaller model is usually the best balance of speed and cost.
Will Summon come to the Mac App Store?
Mac App Store distribution is planned for a future release. Direct purchase is the best way to get Summon now.
